Though the possibility of cheaper games were clearly the intention, I realised, due to the cheapness of the games purchased and in bulk, I had no interest to attempt to complete the games.
In the end, I had tons of cheap XBOX games which haven't even been opened.
That equates to spending $$ senselessly. Not to mention that non-original games have zero trading value.
Also, with the new XBOX Live features of Downloadable Live Content and various good free games on XBOX Live, it makes sense to keep the console original/unmodded to benefit from these XBOX Live features.
Modifying the console to play non-original games will result in the ban of the console from XBOX Live and thus losing a ton of features. Not to mention that Microsoft will not honour any warranty if the console was found to be tampered with. It is also important to note that if the console breaks down even after warranty, Microsoft might offer a discounted refurbished set if your set is not tampered with by third parties.
That (disadvantages of modifying the console) being said, many will have the concern of original games being too expensive to buy.
That is no longer a big concern since the XBOX gaming community in Singapore is getting larger by the day, pre-owned games are constantly traded within Singapore.
And the cost, to buy a pre-owned game and trading it off later, is close to zero.
